Seraphine Leon Sefcik

Seraphine Leon (Wohleb) Sefcik, 78, passed into eternity Friday, June 14, 2019, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services for are scheduled for Thursday, June 20, at 11:00 a.m., in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Seraphine was born April 28, 1941, in Cameron, to Seraphine and Leona (Hertenberger) Wohleb. She was raised in Cameron and was a homemaker and mom until 1984, when she left her empty nest and began working for Hill Country and Bea’s Kitchen until 2008. Her hobby was creating beautiful wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes for the public. She was known for her pastries and especially her kolaches. Her passion was cooking, and her door was always open to anyone who wanted to come by and have a meal. It can truly be said, “No one ever walked away hungry.” Those who visited were usually blessed with a care package of tasty goodies to take with them.

She married the love of her life, John, in 1957 and they spent 51 happy years together. They both treasured each other and the life they built together. They lived by the golden rule to “treat others as they wanted to be treated.”

Seraphine loved her family, hometown and friends and was a people person that never met a stranger. She was a diamond in the rough. Her laugh was contagious and her personality colorful and vibrant. Never bound by political correctness or social conventions, she had a quick wit and sense of humor. She loved cracking jokes, making people laugh and did so until the end.

Survivors include her daughter, Seraphine Moreno and husband, Anthony; grandchildren, Anna, Christian and Christopher Vondergroeben; and great-grandaughters, Camryn, Gwendolyn and Carmen.

She is also survived by her sisters, Josephine Lawrence, Loraine Mitchell and her brothers, Clark and Clifford Wohleb, along with nieces, Audra McClendon, Amy Plander and nephews, Taylor Norris, Dwaine Mitchell, Cliff, Clay, Jay and Nathan Wohleb.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband John A. Sefcik, and two children, Sara Sefcik and John C. Sefcik.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, Texas.
