Sandra Lee Carter

Sandra Lee Carter, 73, passed away in her Cameron, Texas home on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. Born to Lonnie Carter, Jr. and June Lowery Carter in Panama City, Florida on April 4, 1951, Sandra grew up in the Florida panhandle with her five siblings and numerous cousins. She graduated from Rutherford High School in Panama City in 1970 before moving with her family to Houston, Texas in 1971.

Sandra was a longtime employee of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP in downtown Houston. She then devoted herself to the full-time care of her parents, enabling them to live together in their own home until their deaths in 2012.

A two-time cancer survivor, Sandra was feisty and stubborn and loved her family fiercely. Her nieces and nephews were her pride and joy, and she cherished her time with them. After moving to her country home in Cameron, Texas, she loved to sit outside and watch “the girls”, her name for the chickens, and “the neighbors”, the cows in the pasture across the street. In the evenings, she would marvel at God’s artistry as He filled the Texas sky with vibrant color.

As the keeper of the family’s stories, Sandra could remember the smallest detail of long-ago adventures and shenanigans and would recount the tales around the holiday table. We are thankful that these stories live on in Sandra’s blog. Quilting became a passion for Sandra in the final decade of her life and she made at least one quilt for each of her siblings, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and close friends. Sandra also donated her quilts to charitable organizations to help those experiencing housing insecurity.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Randal Paul Carter, brother, Ronald Walker Carter, and sister-in-law, Carolyn Lankford Carter. She is survived by brother, Lonnie Ross Carter and wife, Ronda Litke Carter of Buda, TX, sisters, Deborah Delores Plowman and Pamela June Zieto of Cameron, TX, nephew, Shannon Carter of San Marcos, TX, nephew, Jeffrey Carter and wife, Tiffiny Carter and their children, Kylie Carter, Alyssa Carter, and Grayson Carter of Houston, TX, niece, Heather Carter and son, Marcus Jackson of Kyle, TX, niece Jennifer Carter of Livingston, TX, nephew, Shaun Hewitt of Panama City, FL, niece, Lacey Summers of New Port Richey, FL, numerous extended family members, and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at First Methodist Church of Cameron, 208 W. 2nd St., Cameron, Texas. The family wishes to thank Cameron United Pentecostal Church for providing food after the service. In accordance with her wishes, Sandra’s ashes will be spread in Houston, Texas.
