Raymond Gilbert Bryant, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 1, 2023, in Ogden, Utah with his family by his side. Services for Mr. Bryant will be held Friday, October 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral home in Cameron, TX, with Rev. Billy Crow officiating. Military graveside services will follow in the Rogers Cemetery, Rogers, TX.
He was born on July 13, 1924, in Buckholts, Texas to Raymond Gilbert Bryant, Sr. and Minnie Ezzell Bryant. Raymond married Martha Leola Harlow on June 6, 1952, in Freeport, Texas. After living in New Orleans, Louisiana for 37 years, they moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1994 and Ogden, Utah in 2010. Raymond graduated from Damon High School in 1941 and was a graduate of Blinn College and the University of Texas where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1949.
During his career, Raymond was an employee of Freeport Mc Mo Ran, Inc. for 37 years. Raymond subsequently retired in 1986 as Vice President and Director of Freeport Research and Engineering Co.
Raymond served in the Army Air Forces during World War ll with the 2nd Aircraft Floating Repair Unit in the Pacific Theater of Operations. His unit served aircraft involved in combat on the islands of Saipan and Iwo Jima. For his service he received an American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze service awards and a Meritorious Unit Award.
Survivors include his daughter, Debra Bryant Crawford of Ogden, Utah and her five children Ashley Crawford Miller and spouse Gregory Michael Miller, Emily Crawford Soelberg and spouse Aaron John Soelberg, Gregory Raymond Crawford, Mark Joseph Crawford and spouse Lexi Hoss Crawford, and Rachel Grace Crawford.
Raymond is also survived by his daughter Barbara J. Bryant, M.D. and spouse Lloyd A. Campo, Jr. of Galveston, Texas, her child Mindy L. Calandro, M.D and spouse Blasie J. Calandro lll, and three great-grandchildren Blaise Joseph Calandro IV, Madison Lane Calandro, and Levi Benjamin Calandro.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Raymond and Martha Bryant, Jr. Scholarship Fund, Blinn College Foundation, 902 College Avenue, Brenham, Texas 77833.
