Ray J Hoelscher

Ray J. Hoelscher, 97, of Westphalia, died Sunday, November 19, 2017, in a Temple Nursing Home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia. Monsignor Elmer Holtman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westphalia.

Mr. Hoelscher was born September 8, 1920 in Westphalia to Alois and Olga Frei Hoelscher. He lived in the Westphalia community all of his life. He graduated from Lott High School in 1938 and worked for the Agriculture Administrative Service in Marlin as a surveyor prior to serving in the US Army during World War II. He was discharged on February 20, 1946 having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Grace Holtman on June 18, 1947. After marriage, he worked as a farmer, rancher and for the Western Fair in Lott. He served as president of the Westphalia Water Supply Corporation from 1959 to 2011. He was a member of the Westphalia VFW Post 6117 and the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia.

He was preceded in death by two sons, John Hoelscher and Glen Hoelscher.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Hoelscher of Westphalia

Four sons, Michael Hoelscher of Temple, Donnie Hoelscher and wife Cindy of Westphalia, Wayne Hoelscher and wife Celestia of Temple, and Randy Hoelscher and wife Janet of Academy. Four daughters, Barbara O’Gorman and husband Gene of Little Elm, Kay Rabroker and husband Raymond of Westphalia, Bernadette Gerngross and husband Mark of Rosebud, and Loretta Hoelscher of Fort Worth. Twelve Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren

Memorials may be made to the Westphalia Historical Society, 166 CR 3000, Lott, TX 76656

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud.
