Pauline Wallace Grover

Pauline Scott Wallace Grover passed away Sunday April 28th, 2024 in Cameron, Texas.  Funeral services will be held Saturday May 4th at 10 am at the Rosebud United Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Shuler officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday May 3rd from 5-7 pm     at Cook Gerngross Green Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud.

Pauline was born October 23rd, 1920 in Travis, Texas to C.A. (Gus) and Jessie Cass Scott.  She attended her first nine years of school in Travis and graduated from Rosebud High School in 1938.  She then graduated from Durham Business School in Austin.

She worked in the Identification Bureau for the Houston Police Dept. and during World War II she enlisted to work at the Hawaiian Air Depot in the 7th Air Force Headquarters, at Hickam Field in Hawaii.  She still remembered riding the troop train to Seattle, boarding the troop ship and having to wear a “Mae West” life jacket day and night and being in a storm for 3 days and taking 7 days to get to Hawaii because of the Japanese submarines.  She met and married Virgil L. Wallace and after the war she started her family and raised three sons.  Her husband’s work took them all over the United States and they lived in a number of states as documented in the many photos she took through the years.  She made many good friends and memories on these journeys and never forgot either.  In 1958 they moved to the Scott farm in Travis where she was born and reared and in 1966 she went to work for Belfalls Electric Cooperative in Rosebud and retired in 1987 after 21 years.

She was a life long member of the Rosebud Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.  She served in many capacities in her church including being a member of thex Board of Trustees and had also been Secretary-Treasurer of the United Methodist Women for approximately 20 years.  She served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Travis Cemetery Association for 31 years.  She was active in helping with the Rosebud High School Golden Years Reunion each year serving as President at one time and was awarded the Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2013.

In 1992 she met and married Robert (Bob) Grover from Augusta, Maine.  They traveled each year during the summer and fall and she had many good memories of those days.  She had either lived in or traveled in all of the fifty states except Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Virgil L. Wallace and Robert (Bob) Grover, as well as her five brothers, Holman, Cass, Ben, Buddie, and Hayes Scott.

Pauline is survived by three sons, Gregory L. Wallace and wife Marla of Rosebud, Retired Naval Captain Justin L. Wallace and wife Valerie of Corpus Christi, Carson L. Wallace and wife Helen of Rosebud; granddaughters Kari Len Wallace of Temple and Natalie W. Gunderson and husband Matt of Austin; grandson Evan L.Wallace of Corpus Christi; great-grandsons Braeden L. Wallace of Corpus Christi; and two great-granddaughters Makayla Gunderson and Jacklyn Gunderson of Austin; three special loving nieces Peggy Scott Duty of Waco, Sue Scott Williams of Port Arthur, and Shirley Scott Sykes of Kaufman and one nephew.  She was so proud of her family and dearly loved them all.
