Marjorie Wright

Marjorie Marceline Wright, 96, of Rosebud, Texas, passed away April 25, 2024. She was born January 30, 1928, near Westphalia, Texas to Frank and Freda Gerngross Bernsen.

Marjorie attended school at Westphalia where she enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball. She worked at Green’s  Grocery Store before she married Melvin (Cotton) Wright on September 10, 1949. She also worked later as an inspector for a clothing manufacturer. Marjorie and Cotton enjoyed many nights following their coon dogs hot on the trail of cunning raccoons. Later, when the coon trail became too arduous, they began raising hogs as a hobby, along with the occasional calf; however, Marjorie could never watch the auction sale of her piggies. At home, in addition to gardening, Marjorie stayed busy sewing and cooking. She loved to feed people, so her house was the place to be at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her beloved Cotton in 2016; her parents, brothers, Ervin, Clarence (Spike) Lee Allen, and Marvin Bernsen; sisters, Viola Bachman and Laverne Ewing. She is survived by nephew, Marvin Bernsen and wife Linda; grandniece, Lori Beth Mullenix; grandnephew, Travis Bernsen and wife Erin; great nephews, Blake and Dane Bernsen.

Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice or one of Marjorie’s favorites: Rosebud Volunteer Fire Department, EMS District 3, or Woodland Cemetery.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Rosebud. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. at the church.

Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud is in charge of arrangements.
