Lucille Katherine (Stermer) Stock, a cherished pillar of the community and a beacon of service and kindness, passed away on April 3rd, 2024, at the age of 87.
Lucille was born on May 6, 1936, in Westphalia, Texas, and her life was a testament to her enduring spirit and her commitment to her family, faith, and community.
Lucille attended Rosebud High School, where she not only excelled in her studies but also left a mark with her involvement in FHA and as the Homecoming Queen. In addition, her beauty and grace were recognized when she was honored as Miss Falls County, a title that reflected her inner and outer radiance.
After high school, Lucille continued her education at Temple Junior College, earning an associate’s degree that would serve as the foundation for her lifelong dedication to helping others. Her career was marked by over two decades of volunteer service at the Marlin VA Hospital, where she organized special events for veterans with unwavering passion and care. Lucille’s professional path also led her to Scott and White Hospital, Rosebud ISD, and the Temple VA Hospital, where she made significant contributions.
Lucille married Bill Stock in 1958. Bill and Lucille’s 65-year marriage was a harmonious blend of dedication and love, setting a standard of unity and partnership that inspired all who knew them. The two have been devout members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Cyclone for 56 years, where Lucille was an active participant in the altar society. Her commitment to youth and community was further demonstrated through her roles as a 4H Leader and a member of the East Bell Boosters.
Lucille was renowned for impeccable standards and gracious manners, as well as her meticulous attention to her skin, hair, and nails. Her pastimes were a reflection of her love for life. She was a marvelous cook, and enjoyed playing golf, dominoes, and cards. Her “May Babies” outings were a source of joy, as she cherished these moments with friends who shared her birth month.
Lucille was preceded in death by her mother Roselina Voltin Stermer, father Henry J Stermer, brothers Raymond and Leonard Stermer, and great granddaughters Wrenlee and Scout Stock. She was a proud mother to her son Gary Stock and his wife, Linda. “Mimi’s” enduring legacy lives on in her five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a beloved circle of close relatives and friends, among them Margie and Harold Stock, as well as cherished nieces and nephews.
Lucille’s life was a beautiful mosaic of service, leadership, and love. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the impact she left on all who knew her.
