Friends and family will gather at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home, 111 S. 2nd St., Rosebud, Saturday, September 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. to visit and celebrate Kenneth’s life. Graveside services for family and friends will be Sunday, September 8, at 2 p.m., at Clover Hill Cemetery in Lott located on Waco Avenue, in Lott. The service will be presided over by Rev. Bill Benner.
Kenneth was born October 25, 1929 on a farm near Travis, Texas, to Bessie Mae and William Alton Morris. He was the youngest of five brothers and two sisters. He grew up on farms around Falls County in the heart of the Depression. He attended Rosebud High School and graduated with salutatorian honors in 1947. While attending Rosebud High School, he met the one true love of his life, Sibyl Larmour, who was then a student at Lott High School. They married in 1953 and remained married until her passing in June of 2015. It’s hard to imagine a love stronger than the love he felt for Sibyl.
Shortly after graduation, Kenneth began a very successful career with Southwestern Bell. He began his career as a lineman in Waco stringing telephone line in McLennan and Falls County. When driving through the area 20 years later, he could still point out to his children the poles he had climbed string the line. He started his family in Waco and they eventually moved to Austin where he was quickly promoted into management. While in Austin the family continued to grow and they eventually moved to Houston where Kenneth received several more promotions and eventually finished his career as a District Marketing Manager. After 35 years of service, he retired from Southwestern Bell on December 30, 1983.
Outside of the office, Kenneth loved to coach youth sports, especially baseball. Over the course of eight years of coaching, he never fielded a team with a losing record and most years you could count on his teams to make the playoffs no matter how bad the team had been the year before he became coach.
In 1986, he moved back to Falls County where he built “The Farm,” as his kids and grandkids know it. He farmed, raised cattle, antiqued, sold insurance, and traveled for the next several years. He was also a very active member of the Lott First Presbyterian Church where he served 27 years as an Elder in the church. Every Christmas until the age of 90, he would put up over 12,000 Christmas lights all around the farm, and folks would drive from miles around to see it. He loved his Christmas.
Kenneth is survived by his daughters, Terry Kee and husband, Kenneth, of Midlothian; Sherry Wilson and husband, Robert, of Houston; son, Ken Morris and wife, Ann Marie, of Cypress. In addition, Kenneth is survived by his eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Kenneth’s grandchildren will act as honorary pall bearers, Matt Wilson of Houston; Sarah Wilson Simon of Temple; Courtney Kee Mannino of Mooresville, North Carolina; Emily Wilson Scott of Katy; Jeremy Kee of Dallas; Chance Morris of Lago Vista; Cole Morris of Cypress; and Jenna Morris of Cypress.
