Joseph (Joe) Miller Lightfoot

The morning of Friday, September 22, 2023, Joe Lightfoot passed away peacefully at the Heritage House Nursing Center in Rosebud.  Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 28, at the Rosebud Church of Christ with Minister David Hall officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Rosebud.

Joe was born on March 9, 1932, in Gholson, Texas, to Emory Lee and Nettie May Killion Lightfoot.  He was the sixth child of eleven children and grew up working on his father’s dairy farm in Moody.  Joe and his siblings remained admirably close into adulthood, having family reunions twice a year.  He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

He married Elizabeth Kilgore on July 16, 1955 in Moody.  They moved to Cameron and eventually settled in Rosebud in 1965 to raise their three boys.  Elizabeth passed away in September 2002.   In April 2010, Joe and his family were blessed with the addition of Pattie Freeman when they got married.

He worked for 50+ years selling Chevrolet parts at various dealerships, most of those years at McAtee Chevrolet in Rosebud.  Through his work, he developed many friendships that remain to this day.

Joe served as a volunteer firefighter and was very active in the Rosebud community as well as the Rosebud Church of Christ.  In later years, he served at the Senior Center helping with the Meals on Wheels program.

Those remaining with memories of Joe are his wife, Pattie; his sons, Tracy and wife, Paula, of Woodway, Tim and wife, Sharon, of Temple, and Trent of Temple.  His grandchildren Kevin Lightfoot, Keith Lightfoot and wife, Angela, Audrey Thweatt, and Erasten Lightfoot.  Surviving siblings Gene Lightfoot of Moody and Diane Looper of Weatherford.

The family wishes to thank all of Dad’s caregivers while at the Heritage House.

Memorials may be made to Heritage House 407 College St, Rosebud, TX  76570 or Gentiva Hospice 2626 S 37th St B, Temple, TX 76504.
