Cameron business man, Larry Patterson, 72, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 23, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at White Bluff Chapel in Whitney, Texas, with Dr. Randy Marshall officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron, followed by a graveside service, officiated by Rev. Billy Crow, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron.
James Larry Patterson was born September 26, 1951, in Eldorado, AR, to Roy and Pearla Lee (Fowler) Patterson. He was a 1969 graduate of Eldorado High School. He graduated from Commonwealth Institute of Mortuary Sciences in 1971. Larry recently had the honor of receiving his pin for 50 years of service, from the Texas Funeral Directors Association. If you knew Larry, you knew what an avid Arkansas Razorback fan he was. He loved "calling the Hogs” any chance he got.
Larry joined Mrs. Kay Green at Green Funeral Home in Cameron in 1978, eventually buying her out in 1985, creating Green-Patterson Funeral Home. In 1997, he purchased and consolidated the two funeral homes located in Rosebud, creating Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home. In addition to the funeral business, Larry was a high school and college basketball and football official, making many lifelong friends along the way. He was part of the same crew for over 48 years. During this time, the crew called many state championship games in football and basketball in both UIL and TAPPS. He had the pleasure of realizing his goal of officiating one of his grandaughter’s basketball games before hanging up his whistle. He was a civic leader in Cameron, serving on many committees and boards for the city and Milam County, including Cameron City Council for 10 years and most recently, a long standing position on the Milam County Appraisal District board.
Larry and Sherry were married November 1, 2014. They enjoyed their many travels throughout the country, over the years. They joined the White Bluff community in 2019, where they had hoped to retire. They worshipped with the loving church family at White Bluff Chapel. Larry enjoyed participating in the White Bluff Men’s Golf Association, as well as fishing, visiting with friends and family, and being involved in anything the grandchildren participated in.
