Georgie Ann Jackson died peacefully on Sunday August 11, 2024, at 93 years old while in the care of Our Hospice House in Temple, TX. Georgie was born May 31, 1931, in Houston, TX to parents Archie and Ollie Houston.
She married George Jackson on July 31, 1954. Together they had three children: twin girls, Carol and Lea Ann, and a son, Archie. She is preceded in death by her parents, her kids, Lea Ann and Archie, as well as many other loved ones. She is survived by daughter Carol Torian and husband, Gary, beloved grandchildren James Brookshire and wife, Christi, Tiffany Ward and husband Christopher, Nicole Hudson, and Michael Graefe as well as great grandchildren Sterling Ward, Valencia Ward, Kenneth Brookshire, and William Brookshire.
She was a devout Christian and although was not a regular churchgoer growing up, after she became a mom, she started attending church consistently. She wanted to raise her kids in the church and was a member of a different Lutheran churches throughout the years. At her death she was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cameron, TX.
As a child she attended a school for the blind in Baytown which is where she learned braille. Starting as a teenager and for 20 years off and on she worked as an elevator operator at Herman Hospital in Houston. In the 1980s she owned an in-home childcare called MeMe's Daycare for nearly a decade. After moving to Cameron, TX in May 1991 she worked at Bea's Kitchen and in the kitchen at the junior high school. In addition to working, Georgie volunteered her time at various places such as the Homemakers Extension Club, served as treasurer and secretary with the county extension service, numerous church's children's nurseries, the thrift store in Cameron, and others. She thoroughly loved being a part of The Grandmother's Club and attended many activities with the group and enjoyed traveling to several fun destinations.
Despite her limited eyesight, Georgie enjoyed cooking and baking, was great at crocheting, and had a passion for playing 42! Her memory of family history was impressive and many extended family members enjoyed her retelling of past events. She loved her family dearly and has left a legacy of love with them.
Funeral services will be held at Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron, TX on Saturday August 17th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association which was important to Georgie having lived with a heart condition for years.
