Georgia Marie Bartek Stermer, 95, passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Gardens in Temple, Texas on March 6, 2024. Georgia was born on March 26, 1928 in Cyclone, Texas to J.J. and Emilie Doskocil Bartek. Georgia graduated from Rogers High School in 1946 where she loved to play tennis and basketball. She also played on the State Basketball team her senior year. Georgia married Roy John Stermer on June 3, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They were married for 35 years until he passed away at the age of 57.

Georgia worked in the fields on their farm, Green’s Sausage House, Scott and White Memorial Hospital until she retired after 18 years. She returned to Green’s and worked until the age of 80. While at home she was able to make many beautiful quilts for the Cyclone Picnic and family members. She loved gardening and canning. Over the following years she canned many jars of pickles for friends and family. She was a devout Catholic who attended mass daily until the age of 92. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Altar Society. Georgia was honored by being presented the 2017 Lumen Gentium Award by Bishop Joe Vasquez.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a great grandchild, MiKayla Combs, four brothers, Arnold, Johnnie, Jerry and Julius; four sisters: Ella Pavliska, Martha Schneider, Della Green, and Annie Boehme.

Georgia is survived by sons: Willie Stermer and wife Sharon of Oscar, A.J. Stermer and wife Connie of Belton, Lawrence Stermer and wife Teri of Nolanville, Andy Stermer and wife Julie of Cameron, and Pat Stermer and wife Pam of Wilson, daughters, Marie Doskocil and husband Roy of Salado, Katherine Lenart and husband Bernie of Temple, and Carol Stermer of Cyclone. 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Georgia was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

To the staff at Cornerstone Gardens and Amedisys Hospice Care we thank you for taking such great care of our Mom and treating her as if she was your own.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Building Fund.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. with Deacon Matt Hoelscher officiating. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cyclone. Father Darrell Kostiha and Father Ranjan Cletus will officiate.
