Bonnie Lucile (Wooten) Heugatter, 85, passed away January 14, 2022, in Waco, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20 th at Woodland Cemetery in Rosebud, Tx.
She was born on May 28, 1936, in Addington, Oklahoma, to Martha and Earman Wooten. She graduated from high school in Fort Worth and moved with her family to Artesia, California, where she married Emil Heugatter in 1959.
Bonnie was well suited to be an Army wife. She was gentle at home with her children, but fierce and strong whenever family was challenged. Like many Americans of her generation, she found raising a family as a young wife and mother during remarkable times (the Cold War and Vietnam War) to be full of challenges. She was up to the task, exploring Europe during the time her family was posted in Germany, her husband training to face down the Russians in the Fulda Gap. She faithfully wrote a letter to her husband every day that he served in-country in Vietnam. That kind of devotion was familiar to those close to her, in her family and among friends.
She is survived by her husband, Emil, her son Keith (Mary Ann) Heugatter, daughter Karen Heugatter, grandchild Tenley Heugatter, sister Nelda Merritt, sister Beverly Adley, and brother Wesley Wooten. She was preceded in death by her first child, Kurt Eugene Heugatter
Pallbearers will be Michael Adley, Chase Cryer, John Cryer, Eli Heugatter, Jimmy Webb, and Michael Wooten. Honorary pallbearers will be Rich Merritt and Marc Wooten.
The family wishes that any memorial gifts be made to the Woodland Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 795, Rosebud, TX 76570
Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud is in charge of arrangements.
