Billy Mac Callahan passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 29, 2025, following a six-month battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend to so many. His passing leaves a void for all, but we plan to fill that void with memories, and all of the fun stories his family and friends have collected over the years.
Billy Mac was born on October 30, 1970, in Austin to Pat and Paula Kay Callahan. He spent lots of time in his youth working at the family business, Callahan’s General Store, with many of his cousins, and there are countless stories about the hard work and fun they had there together. When he was a teenager, his family bought a ranch and moved to Fredonia, TX to run their own cattle operation. His dad, Pat, was known to be one of the best “cow men” around, and although working together wasn’t always easy, Billy Mac learned all he knew about cattle from Pat. In 1994, they sold the Fredonia ranch and bought a ranch outside of Cameron, Texas, where Billy Mac has owned and operated 4C Ranch, alongside his family, since that time.
In addition, Billy Mac and his brother, Casey, were rodeo competitors and traveled with their mom, Paula Kay, all over the state of Texas to rodeos near and far. It was in the rodeo world that Billy Mac met some of his best, life-long friends, as well as his wife, Cassie. Billy Mac also loved to hunt, and over the years, had so many great times with friends and family at his deer leases in Carrizo Springs, Laredo, Del Rio, and Encinal. In 2022, he completed a bucket list item by harvesting a mountain lion with his friend, Breck Bean, as his guide - it was truly an experience and a story that he loved to share with others.
Billy Mac is survived by his loving wife, Cassie Callahan, and by his pride and joy, his children. Son, Kincaid Callahan and wife Jacqueline Jefferys Callahan of College Station; daughter, Corley Callahan and her boyfriend, Colby Wilson of College Station and Huntsville, respectively; his brother, Casey Callahan of San Angelo, his mother, Paula Kay Callahan of Cameron; his father- and mother-in-law, Cliff and Connie Sanders of Lexington and his brother-in-law, Clint Sanders as well as his nephews, Sloan and Dean Sanders, all of Cameron. Also surviving are countless cousins and friends all over the state of Texas and beyond.
He is preceded in death by his dad, Pat, and by his grandparents, Earl and Lucy Callahan and Tommy and Pauline Kluge.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 2 at Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 3 at Little River Event Center, 1404 CR 230 in Cameron, with Bill Harris presiding. A private, family burial will follow in Hornsby Bend.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Grace Akinyi-Joseph, M.D. at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in College Station. Billy Mac was especially fond of Dr. Joseph, and her jokes and laughter with him were the best medicine. We would also like to thank all the other doctors, nurses and our nurse friends from both Scott & White and MD Anderson, who worked so hard alongside us in caring for him through this journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to one of Billy Mac’s favorite organizations, Little River Youth Supporters, P.O. Box 506, Cameron, Texas 76520.
Arrangements by Green-Patterson Funeral Home, 2701 US 77, Cameron, Texas.
