She is preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 48 years, her mother Mate and father Joe Pomykal, her brother Amos and sister Leola.
Alda was born in Rosebud, Texas October 5, 1923, oldest of eight children. She graduated Rosebud High School at age 16. After her mother and siblings moved to a farm near West, Texas, Alda worked in retail stores in Bell Mead and Waco. During the war years, she was employed at the Convair defense plant in Fort Worth, installing radios and communications equipment into B-24 bombers. In 1947 she married Jack and started a family in West, Texas. They later moved to Waco where Alda was actively involved with Girl Scouts and the PTA. In 1960 the family relocated to north Houston, Texas. Alda worked selling Tupperware and for Oshman’s Sporting Goods as well as being involved with the Aldine Schools’ PTA and Band Parents. She later was employed by the Aldine Independent School District. During her 30+ years with the school district she worked with learning-challenged children, later becoming text book distribution manager for the district.
Above all else, Alda was a caring, loving mother to her family. She had a love of reading, books, education, gardening, music and compassion for the disadvantaged which she passed on to her children. She also instilled in them pride for their Czech/German roots and family history. Alda was a great cook and homemaker, a talented artist and enjoyed keeping current with politics and world events. She loved a rousing, good natured discussion!
Alda maintained a positive can-do attitude and upbeat disposition even in the midst of hardship. She was always “there” for her children and family. Her physical presence will be missed but her amazing spirit will remain within the hearts of her children.
