Jewel Lee Johnson, also known as Jewel Rosemond, was born August 3, 1930 to Purn Rosemond and Beatrice Rosemond in Maysfield, Texas. Jewel accepted Christ at a young age and became a member of Milam Grove United Methodist Church in Maysfield, Texas. She received her education in Milam County and graduated from O.J. Thomas in Cameron.

After getting her education, Jewel married Boy Ferguson of Houston, Texas and to this union, a daughter named Paulette was born.

In 1961, Jewel found the love of her life and she and Porter Johnson Jr., a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, were united in holy matrimony. Jewel traveled the world with her husband and made homes in Texas, Hawaii, and Germany before returning back to her hometown following her daughter’s high school graduation.

Jewel had a love for sports, especially basketball. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and meeting new people. Jewel remained active in church and her community until her health failed and she could no longer work in her desired capacity. On June 29, 2015, Jewel passed away in Giddings, Texas.

She is survived by her sister, Nellie Rosemond, of Temple, Texas; her granddaughter, Sonja Catrece Johnson-Williams, of Missouri City, Texas; her great grandson, Aaron Corneil Williams Jr., of Missouri City, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Funeral services for Jewel will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1000 West 6th Street in Cameron, Texas. A viewing will be held at 10:30 a.m. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.
