Bonnie Jean Malcik, age 73, died Tuesday, May 5 at her home in Rosebud. She was born on September 13, 1941 in Seattle WA to David Frank and Elizabeth Jean Badgett.
Bonnie ventured to Washington DC to work for the FBI after graduating from Robert E.Lee High School in Baytown, TX. She returned to Texas two years later and started a family soon after. Throughout her career, she worked as a legal secretary and bookkeeper.
On April 1, 1978, Bonnie married Maurice Malcik and joined in operating Malcik’s Furniture and Appliance until 1998. She enjoyed leading Bible studies and singing in the church choir until health issues curtailed her participation.
Bonnie was known for her wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed laughing with people. She was a talented artist blessed with the gift of painting and writing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Maurice Malcik, and sister Roberta Reyna. She is survived by her children Charles David Scarborough and wife Angie of Lorena, Rainey Freeman and husband Joe of Tyler, Kelly Salazar and husband Edward of Rosebud; step sons Ed Malcik and wife Sue of Chennia, India, Bud Malcik and wife Sara of Kingsville; grandchildren Alex and Heidi Scarborough, Reagan and Parker Freeman, Ryan, Tyler, and Taylor Salazar; 6 step grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Ryan Salazar, Tyler Salazar, Alex Scarborough, Parker Freeman, Christopher Gage and Jacob Gage. Honorary Pallbearers are Josh Salazar and Rudy Salazar.
Visitation will be from 6:30pm - 8:00pm on Friday, May 8. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 9 at Cook Gerngross Green Patterson Funeral Home with graveside following at Woodland Cemetery.
