Funeral services for James Ray “Jim” Lafferty, age 64, of Cameron, will be held at 11:00 a m Thursday in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home with Reverend Brad Dusenberry officiating. Mr. Lafferty died Monday October 20, 2014 in a Temple hospital following an illness.
Mr. Lafferty was born March 31, 1950, in Houston, Texas, to James Elton and Doris Myers Lafferty, and owned and operated Jim’s Electric. Mr. Lafferty was a 1968 graduate of C H Yoe High School, and attended Baylor University, where he was a walk on football athlete, and later graduated from Mary Hardin Baylor in 1984. Prior to owning Jim’s Electric Mr. Lafferty was a Farm Bureau agent for many years, and he also pastored several churches including Battetown, Pleasant Grove, Buckholts Brethen, and Meadowbrook, and also served as chaplain for many years of the Cameron Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Lafferty also served one term on the Cameron ISD School Board, and was presently on the Cameron Housing Authority Board and had served on the board of the Child Protective Services. Mr. Lafferty was preceded in death by an infant brother and his father Reverend James E. Lafferty.
Survivors include his wife, Toni Lafferty of the home; one son, Brandon Lafferty of Vicksburg, Mississippi and one daughter, Whitney Lafferty of Temple. He is also survived by his mother, Doris Lafferty of Cameron and one brother, Dale Lafferty, also of Cameron. Also surviving are four grandchildren.
Family visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 A M Thursday at Green-Patterson Funeral Home.
The Family has requested that those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to the Cameron Volunteer Fire Department in lieu of flowers.
