Gladys Veracruz passed away and entered God's arms on Sunday, August 31st at the age of 104. Services for Gladys Veracruz will be held at the Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, September 4th from 6-8 pm and Funeral Services will be held at 2PM on Friday, Sept. 5th.
She was born in Bastrop, Texas on April 22nd 1910 and lost her parents at a very early age. After the death of her parents she lived with her Aunt and Uncle. She often talked about a Family Bakery in Dallas. She attended Dallas Schools and often talked about Revivals they attended by riding in a wagon.. Later as she grew up and met and married Jose Maria Veracruz. Together they had eight children. Preceding her in death were her parents Ranfilo Frayre and Juanita Hernandez Frayre. An infant daughter Losita Veracruz and later in 1950 her husband Jose Maria Veracruz (at age 47)) and she later moved to Lott with her family and babysat for many chilldren and they knew her as Mama Cruz. As they grew up, they always stopped by to say hello to Mama Cruz.
Later in life three of her grown children passed away((son) John Veracruz, (daughter) Josephine Hernandez, and (son) Ray Veracruz. Also preceding her in death was her son-in-law Jimmy Wheeler, grandson Dean Wheeler, grandson-in-law David Winkler and daughter-in-law Chris Veracruz and Randall Blakney(BoBo) and Vickie Blakney..
She is survived by daughters Minnie Wheeler of Waco, Tx and daughter Margaret Fuentez and husband Blas of San Angelo, Tx., and son George Veracuz and wife Ruth of San Antonio, Tx., and son-in-law Matthew Hernandez of Waco, Tx.
She is also survived by her grandchildren- Rudy Hernandez and wife Diana (Bruceville-Eddy,Tx), Steve Hernandez and wife Phylicia(Lorena, Tx.), Thomas Hernandez and wife Sylvia(Round Rock, Tx.), Debbie Wheeler Winkler (Giddings, Tx.), Barbara Veracruz Rose (San Antonio, Tx.), Belinda Veracruz Brown(Winston Salem,North Carolina) and Brenda Veracruz Downs(Memphis,Tennesse), Carl(Skipper) Veracruz (Westminister, Colorado) and Scott (Denver, Colorado), Denise Fuentez Van Zandt and husband Tony(San Angelo, Tx), Anthony Fuentez and wife Sophia(San Angelo, Tx.)
She is survived by 29 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great Great Grandchildren.
She will always be remembered for her kind heart and her love for God. Our mother and grandma will always have a Special Place in our hearts! We love you and will treasure those Special Moments you spent with each of us!!! We will always Love you and Miss You!!!
