Helen Lingnau, 83, of Westphalia, died Monday, May 26, 2014, in a Temple Nursing Home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia. Rev. Walter Dhanwar officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westphalia.
Mrs. Lingnau was born January 2, 1931 in Burlington to Joseph and Ida Meek Olbrich. She graduated from Rosebud High School in 1947 and began a long career in banking, starting with Planters National Bank in Rosebud. In 1959 she started work with Temple National Bank and in time was elected as the first female bank cashier in Bell County. She continued working through several bank mergers and retired in 1996 as Assistant Vice President of Nationsbank, now Bank of America in Temple.
She married John Lingnau on November 20, 1951. She was an active member of the Church of the Vistation in Westphalia where she was a member of the altar society. She was a charter member of the Westphalia Historical Society, serving as its secretary until her death. She is remembered for her many volunteer efforts to numerous senior citizens, church, and community functions in the area.
She was preceded in death by parents and her husband, who died on November 8, 1984.
She is survived by two sister, Mary Lou Landers of Decatur and Ruth Bigon of Temple. Several Nieces, Nephews and a whole community who loved her.
Memorials may be made to Westphalia Historical Society.
Vistiation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by the rosary on Wednesday at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud.
