Margaret Christine "Chris" Holcombe

Margaret Christine (Laws) Holcombe, 66 of Cameron, returned to her Heavenly Father on January 3, 2013 after a valiant 9 year battle with breast cancer.

Chris was a born and bred Texas woman who dedicated her life to family and community. She was born in Lockhart, Texas, on May 20, 1946.  Chris graduated from Del Valle High School in Austin, Texas, in 1963 and University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1967.  Her one and only position with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension spanned 35 years as the County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences in Milam County.  Chris received numerous awards for her service throughout her career and lifetime, being especially proud of receiving the Texas 4-H Meritorious Service Award in 1984 and the Cameron Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year in 2010.

Upon retirement, Chris continued her service and volunteerism through her First United Methodist Women, Republican Women of Milam County, Cameron Lions Club, the Cameron ISD Foundation, the Cameron Arts and Service League, Friends of the Cameron Library, Little River Basin Master Gardeners, and Cameron ISD Campus Advisory Board.   Chris was always available to mentor and support those in the community, using her skills and contacts to further and better the world around her.

Chris is survived by husband of 38 years  Roderick ‘Rod’ Holcombe, son Andrew ‘Andy’ Holcombe and wife Micah, grandson Luke Holcombe of Temple, Texas, son William ‘Bill’ Holcombe and wife Sara, granddaughter Aubrey Holcombe of Friendswood, Texas; brother Charles Laws and wife Gloria, of Mustang Ridge, Texas, sister Cheryl Walker and husband James of Milano, Texas; mother-in-law Clara Grace Sherrill of Lexington, Texas; nephew Keith Laws and wife Rosemary of Holland, Texas; great-nephews Colt Laws and wife Kayla, Preston Laws and great-niece Kylie Laws. Chris was preceded in death by parents Preston and Margaret (Nelson) Laws.

Visitation was on Sunday, January 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron, Texas.  A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, January 7th at 10:30 a.m. at the Cameron First United Methodist Church.
