Diane Souther Dolan passed away December 1, 2012 at her residence in Rosebud. Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud. Larry Boone officiating.
Diane was born in Temple on October 25, 1936 to Robert and Carol Souther. She graduated from Rosebud High School in 1954 and received her BS degree from the University of Texas and her MLA degree from SMU.
Diane met Sam Dolan at the University of Texas and they were married at First United Methodist Church in Rosebud on November 30, 1957.
Diane taught school in Dallas for 25 years and after Sam retired they moved to Rosebud and restored the Souther home, where they have been living since 1991.
Diane served three terms on the Rosebud City Council where she was appointed to represent the city at the Central Texas Water Supply Corporation and she served on the Board of Trustees of D Brown Library in Rosebud.
She served eight years as as director of the Rosebud Chamber of Commerce where she was president, secretary and treasurer. She started the Yard of the Month project and was responsible for getting Heloise to speak at a Chamber Banquet. During her tenure as president, the membership rose to over 100. At the time of her death, she was secretary to the Rosebud Pantry and Thrift Store, secretary to the Woodland Cemetery Association, and president of the Rosebud Historical Society. She also served as president of the Rosebud Auxillary(Heritage House), Board member of the Central Texas Area Museum in Salado, and volunteered for the reading program in the elementary school.
Diane is survived by her husband Sam, her children, Jeff Dolan, Tim Dolan, Kelly Robertson, and Andrea Dolan. Her grandchildren, Cole and Matt Robertson, Michael Scudder, Jill Owens, and E.J. Waggy and great granddaughter Lexie Robertson and great grandson Sam McKenzie.
Memorials may be made to D Brown Library, Woodland Cemetery Association, Rosebud Museum, or to the charity of your choice.
