Melvin Gerngross, 94, of Temple, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, in a Temple Nursing Center. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cyclone. Rev. Walter Matus officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Mr. Gerngross was born April 8, 1918 in the Meeks, Cyclone community to Henry and Katherine Buegeler Gerngross. He grew up in the Cyclone community and had lived in Temple for the past 54 years. He married Alice Chollett on February 23, 1941. He retired from Farmers Propane Gas Company and farming and ranching. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Temple. His favorite pastime was playing dominos, especially Moon.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Gerngross of Temple
One daughter: Irlene Schneider and husband Virgil of Temple
Two sons: Malcolm Clay Gerngross and wife Patricia of Bryan and Mark Gerngross and wife Bernadette of Rosebud.
Four Grandchildren: Karen Wolfe, Gerald Schneider and wife Shirley, William Schneider, and Emily Gerngross
One Great Granddaughter: Brenda Lueck
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s School. 1018 South 7th Street, Temple, TX 76504 or the American Heart Association.
Rosary was recited at 6:00 p.m. Saturday with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud.
