David Earl Johnson, 50, of Rosebud, died Friday September 9, 2011 in a Temple Hospital. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Sat., Sept. 17, 2011 in Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud. Rev. Aaron Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Willing Workers Cemetery in Rosebud.
Mr. Johnson was born June 18, 1961 in Rosebud to Gladys Marie Johnson and SGT Richard Harris. He received his education at Rosebud-Lott High School where he excelled in Football, Track and Tennis. It was on the football field he received his trademark nickname “Snake 88”. On November 17, 1978, while making a tackle against the Cameron Yoemen, David sustained an injury which caused permanent paralysis. His jersy number 88 was retired. He graduated with his class in 1980. He attended Victoria College as a Social Work Student and later became a Peer counsler at the Austin Resource Center for Independent Living in Austin. In 1988, in his honor, Elm Street officially became David Earl ST. in Rosebud.

Viewing was held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday with Family Visitation from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
