Evelyn C. Moss

Evelyn Faye Canady Moss was welcomed by her loving savior on June 20, 2011 after a long struggle with a respiratory illness. Evelyn was born on January 8, 1927 in Jones Prairie, Texas  to Newt and Effie Canady. She graduated from Calvert High School and worked most of her life as a director of credit unions and as an accomplished artist. She married her best friend and the love of her life Harold Moss in Houston, Texas on October 18, 1947. They celebrated 63 ½ years of marriage. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Lana Mauro and husband Frank of Lake Jackson. The delight of Evelyn’s life was her grandchildren Lucas and wife Jessica of Houston, Leighton of Belville and Lauren of Austin. Evelyn battled illness even as a child which often kept her from attending school. However, you would never know of her struggles because of the enthusiasm and passion with which she embraced each day. She was a devout Christian, always helping, serving and loving others. You could not spend time with her without leaving with a smile on your face and feeling better. She loved people and wherever she lived she was always surrounded by many friends through bridge groups, art classes, dining out groups or just sharing an evening with special friends. She loved entertaining and was an outstanding cook. Evelyn never ceased enjoying learning and expanding her knowledge of the Bible, geography, technology, finances and other interests. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Services were held at Hillier Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 22 at 1 p.m. with Rev. John Maurer officiating with interment following at Little River Cemetery in Cameron, Texas at 4:00 pm. A time for family to receive friends was held on Tuesday, June 21 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hillier Funeral Home.
